Hello baseball fans! Teddy Schupack here, giving you your weekly update on the Phillies and everything going on around the MLB. This is my first article, so if anyone reading this has ideas for topics I could cover, feel free to email me!
For the week of April 28th:
The Phillies have been doing very well over the last three days. Don Mattingly has been doing well as manager, I guess. I feel bad for Rob Thomson, but I think someone will definitely hire him. In this last series against the Giants, the Phils have been locked in. They have been hitting the ball hard, pitching well, and managed to sweep them.
I was lucky enough to go to Game 2 of the doubleheader on Thursday. My friends and I went together, and we managed to get a ball that Justin Crawford and Kyle Schwarber had been warming up with. (I got to keep it.) Those are actually two players I would like to talk about.
Crawford has been doing well this series. He has gotten a hit in every game of the series, including a triple and a walk-off infield single. Next up, Schwarber. Schwarber had a great series. He hit his 350th career homer in Game 1 of the doubleheader and went 4-for-4 with a homer, two doubles, and a single in Game 2. I did not get to see his homer, but it was fun watching him hit some clutch doubles. In that game, he raised his average from .196 to .225. That is a good sign.
Brandon Marsh and Adolis Garcia also had great games in the game I went to. Marsh did not start, but he pinch-hit late in the game for Felix Reyes. He hit a double in that at-bat and then scored on Schwarber’s double. Garcia got a two-run single, which helped a lot, almost hit a homer in the ninth inning, and then scored on Alec Bohm’s sacrifice fly.
I know he has been struggling this year, but Bryson Stott, in Game 1 of the doubleheader, hit a clutch triple and then scored on Crawford’s infield single. That is also a good sign.
One last player I want to talk about is Chase Shugart. He won both games of the doubleheader. He went from 0-0 on Thursday morning to 2-0 after Game 2. Shugart is doing well for us, and I hope he gets more time to pitch.
Also, one quick thing: Ildemaro Vargas just extended his hit streak to 26 games with a hit against the Cubs.
That is it for today’s article. Be sure to read more. Thanks!
