7th Grade Pep Rallies
By Cameron Moore (7th)
Am I just the pep rally guy now?
Unlike my article last year about the 6th grade pep rallies, there haven’t really been many controversies (even though this is the same group of students). In fact, I think that the pep rallies have been run very well. It’s really more about teams just not liking each other. So, for this article, I will be talking about each pep rally (and Brain Games) and pulling some key information from them. Get it? Got it? Good.
September Pep Rally
September’s 7th Grade Rally was as intense as ever. There was a sort of chill in the air: the winner would have to fight the other teams for the win.
Okay, it wasn’t that dramatic. But you get what I mean.
One team that was truly dominating was orange; they were winning event after event, such as musical chairs and tug of war. On the opposite side of the spectrum, green was…doing their thing, I guess. Anyway, what about the other teams?
Red and purple were putting up very solid performances. Not orange, but not green either. These guys were right in the middle. Consistency matters, I guess.
However, one team that seemingly came out of nowhere was my team, blue. Despite an absolutely abysmal performance in tug of war (I did that and have still not recovered), our students were winning many other events, like basketball and football. This led to results that shocked Mr. Scott (who was in his Super Bowl XLVI Giants jersey, which is kinda cool, except for the fact that it is the Giants) and the rest of the gym; a tie between orange and blue. That is when orange team history teacher Mr. Sullivan and blue team ELA teacher Mrs. MacMurchy stepped in front of the whole seventh grade and did a best-of-3 rock, paper, scissors. Mr. Sullivan won two out of three and won the rally for orange.
Of course, I had the honor of being in Mrs. Mac’s core 4 class that day, and she wasn’t in the most cheery mood. We forgave her, however, and she even said, “I am never doing that again.” To be honest, I don’t blame her.
December Brain Games
What a Brain Games it was! Combined with the buzz of winter break, the students were having a great time in the auditorium, doing dances and racking their trivia brains. The teachers even got in on the fun, with a teacher round that was beyond hilarious.
There were some great vibes in the auditorium. Anyway, the green team redeemed themselves from a disappointing September Pep Rally to a brain game victory, with the red team close behind them.
While it didn’t have the storylines or intensity of September, it was a fun time and a great event for everyone leading into winter break and the holiday season.
March Pep Rally
Another fun pep rally! With many popular events returning along with new events such as Hungry Hungry Hippos and Teacher Musical Chairs, the atmosphere was electric in the gym. Multiple teams won the first few events, but orange and purple quickly rose to the top of the standings as the team events started.
And green…was doing as good as September, or lack thereof. Poor green.
4th-place red put up a solid performance while the 3rd-place blue team even won an event. However, the big battle between orange and purple came down to the wire. But, finally, to purple’s dismay, orange won their second pep rally, establishing grade-wide superiority against the other four teams.
So, that wraps up this recap article and my second pep rally article. Cheers to next year’s 8th grade rallies being better than the last!
