Yeah. I’ve run out of ideas. But, there’s been a lot of sports headlines. So……
NFL in Olympic Flag Football
We have big news from the Olympic stage, which will return to Los Angeles for a third time in 2028. According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the league passed a resolution that will allow NFL players to participate in the Olympics’ newest event--flag football--in 2028. Resolutions need to be approved by 24/32 owners to be approved, and for this resolution in particular, it must be approved by the NFL Players Association, officials from the IOC (International Olympic Committee), and other governing bodies, which have all approved of it, per reports.
Suspensions in MLB
Some unfortunate news for Phillies fans came this past weekend. This past Sunday morning, star reliever Jose Alvarado was suspended for 80 games and the playoffs without pay after failing a PED test. The cause was later found to be a weight-loss drug. This is not a one-off thing; earlier this year, the Atlanta Braves’ Jurickson Profar was given the same punishment for the same penalty: an 80-game suspension with no playoffs and no pay. Unlike Alvarado, Profar was found to be using a drug that increases testosterone levels, according to MLB.
This season is three months old, and we already have two PED suspensions. Insane.
Tush Push Proposal Fails
On Wednesday, NFL league owners voted for the Green Bay Packers’ proposed ban on the Philadelphia Eagles’ signature play, the tush push. While the ban did win the majority, it did not reach the required mark of ¾ of the owners, losing 22-10, just two votes away from a ban.
The Eagles then proceeded to go on an insane social media spree, including many memes, and a 27 minute-long video of Jalen Hurts doing the tush push.
SGA Wins MVP
On Tuesday, the NBA announced the winner of the 2024-25 NBA MVP to be, for the first time, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander of the Oklahoma City Thunder. SGA, after finishing runner-up to Denver Nuggets C Nikola Jokic last season, beat out Jokic this year and prevented him from winning his 4th MVP in five years.
Gilgeous-Alexander led his Thunder to an NBA-best 68 wins this season, and just defeated Jokic’s Nuggets in the Western Conference Semifinals. He is currently playing in the Conference Finals, with the opportunity to go to the NBA Finals on the line.
SGA led the league with 33 points per game, made about 50% of his field goals, and he was also a solid defensive player for the Thunder. He’s been a star for the league’s best team, and he is only 26 years old, which means we have many more years of SGA in front of us.
