Hello Kitty: A Shocking Revelation That Shakes Childhood Nostalgia

by Maeve O'Connell (8th)

There are points in life where I realize something that seems like it should have been obvious, but I was just too single-minded to realize it.

When I discovered that Hello Kitty isn’t actually a cat, I felt as though I should be having one of these moments, but it just wasn’t clicking.

Why does she have whiskers and cat ears? Why is this so important to me in the first place?

I might not be a particular Hello Kitty fan, but even this small breach of what I consider to be “common knowledge” has been shattered, and I don’t think my brain cells can withstand anything else.

We are offering a support group for fans in denial, as people refuse to believe this. Although all of this was revealed in July of this past summer, our minds are still haunted by the image of Hello Kitty taking off her head to reveal a head underneath, like a sports team mascot.

I don’t think I can unsee that.

All of this leaves me wondering what other beloved childhood cartoon characters were intended to be human in the minds of their creators.

Perhaps the creators of Bluey will say that Bluey is a human child—wouldn’t that be interesting?
