The Wicked movie gives us a fresh perspective on the Wicked Witch of the West, showing her friendship with young Glinda when they met at school. But is she really wicked after all?

Is Wicked Worth Seeing?

Yes! Wicked is my favorite movie. Before watching it, I thought it was overhyped, but once I saw it, my mind completely changed. Everything about it was amazing. Beware: once you hear the songs, you will NOT be able to get them out of your head! I had no idea what Wicked was before, and now I’m in love with it. However, it is very long—if you have a short attention span, you may want to wait. But if you haven’t seen it yet, I highly recommend it!

Is Wicked as Good as People Say?

Wicked received an 88% on Rotten Tomatoes, with audience reviews being mixed—many calling it amazing, while others found it boring. Several reviews mention that they only really enjoyed the last twenty minutes.

While I thought the movie was fantastic, I will admit it was very long, running two hours and forty minutes—and there’s still a second part coming!

Is the Play Better Than the Movie?

Since I haven’t seen the Broadway play, I interviewed a 6th grader who has watched both. Here’s what she had to say:

  • Q: Which one do you think is better?
A: “I liked the experience of the Broadway play, but overall, I think the movie.”

  • Q: Why do you think that?
A: “There were a lot more details in the movie. The play needed more details. Also, it’s easier to see and hear the movie.”

  • Q: Do you think most people would agree with you?
A: “I think it would be a pretty even split, to be honest.”

  • Q: What would you rate the movie and the play?
    A: “I’d give the movie a 9/10, and the play an 8.5/10.”

That’s a pretty close score!

Final Thoughts

I hope you enjoyed this review and that it inspired you to go see Wicked if you haven’t yet. If you do, enjoy the magic!
