The PW Marching Colonials had a fantastic season. We performed our show at multiple football games both home and away, and we also performed at competitions called Cavalcades. We are both members of the marching band and we feel like we should tell you about our season.

Our Show

The show performed by our marching band this season was titled “Until You Love Yourself”, which is focused on self-love and appreciating yourself for who you are. It includes three well-known tunes. “Can’t Help Falling in Love” by Elvis Pressley highlights the first movement, which goes from a cheery fanfare to a heart-breaking section that flips the emotion of the show from joy to sadness.

The second movement is much slower-paced, highlighted by the song “Gravity” by Sara Bareilles, which is sung by PW senior Katie Abai during the show. The song comprises many large, expressive visual elements. These are performed not just by the color guard, but also by the winds and drumline.

The third movement is finally when self-love is accepted, with the main song played in this section being “Feeling Good” by Michael Buble, an upbeat, jazzy piece that brings the mood of the band up for the end of the show.

Competitions

Throughout the season, we participated in three competitions (excluding champs) and did very well at all of them. At our first competition at Phoenixville, we won our class of American A, winning the high color guard and high visual awards as well.

High color guard means that our color guard, which is the group of kids twirling flags and doing dance moves to improve our show, were the best out of all bands in our class, as they stood out to the judges with their skills.

The high visual award is very similar, but instead of just including the color guard’s contributions, it includes visual moves, or different dance moves and physical actions that are done by the entire band.

At our second competition at Conestoga, we won our class for the second consecutive time that year with a score of 89, once again winning the high color guard and high visual awards.

Hatboro-Horsham: Our 3rd and final Cavalcade we competed in was at Hatboro Horsham: We got first place there out of 4 schools and we did extremely well we got a 91.05 or something close to that. This was a really good run and you have to be very good to get above a 90.  We got the awards of high color guard and visuals. We also had a high music award which means our music was really outstanding.

Championships

The last competition of the year was championships. It was at Dallastown PA and we had an amazing run. We had 12 schools in our division which is about triple the size of our usual run. It was our best run getting a 93.5 out of 100 which was our highest score of the season. We got a place of 2nd out of the 12 schools and we got the special awards of high color guard, and high visuals.

Overall, this was a fantastic season for the Plymouth Whitemarsh Marching Colonials, as we finished in the top 2 at champs for the second straight year. If you want to join, there will be information and spring rehearsals available to all current 7th and 8th graders near the end of the school year.
