Hey, it’s me, Jax! I have a great idea for raising money for CMS—and even the entire Colonial School District. This idea is already being discussed by our principal, Mr. Kaplan.
So, how did I come up with it? Let me tell you the story.
Last week, when I was plugging in my Chromebook, I noticed the small port on the side—the one made for the SA301H Stylus (the stylus that pairs with the Asus Chromebook Vibe CX34 Flip). I remembered that these styluses were used back in Colonial Elementary School, and that there was once a big box of them in the library. That got me thinking: what if we still have extras stored somewhere here at CMS?
If we do, we could sell them to raise money for our school! I mentioned the idea to Mr. Lashley, and he said we do have some styluses stored—and that it was a good idea.
Today, I ran the idea by Mr. Lashley and he said that we did have them stored and that it was a good idea. If we were to sell them they are worth a lot, they go from a minimum of $59.99 to a maximum of $89.99. Since we have around 1200 students that could be a maximum profit of $107,988.00. Yes that’s a lot but we have to subtract some, some students have the blue computers that don’t have the styluses so let's take away 300 styluses. This leaves us with $80,991.00, but there’s more to take away. Some of the styluses were overlooked and were still in the computer so let’s take away 100 styluses, now we have 800, but some may have broken in the collecting process, so 50 less for that. Now with 750 styluses, that leaves us with $67,492.50, (NO I DID NOT SET THAT UP) but that is if they sell for max price. If they sell for the minimum we have $44.992.50. I am sad to say, we have a little more to subtract, if only 75% of them sell, we have $33,744.38. After making some realistic estimates, we could still earn around $30,000–$40,000—a huge boost to our school budget!
Now, what could we do with that money? Here are some ideas:
-
Increase the budget for school musicals and performances
-
Give Mr. Tony Colgan the raise he deserves
-
Fix the water fountain in the cafeteria
-
Add more foods from different cultures to the lunch menu
As for how to sell them, we could use platforms like Facebook Marketplace, Craigslist, eBay, or even Etsy or Decluttr.
This is Jax signing off—more news to come!
P.S. If we add new lunch options, please include food from Spanish-speaking countries!
