Mrs. Oremus is a kind and generous teacher, and she is one of my favorite Health teachers! I chose to write about her because she is such a nice teacher and because she’s leaving—so sad! I also wanted to learn more about her. Additionally, I love interacting with people, so that was another reason I chose to write about her!

What made you want to teach health, and how did that choice shape your journey as a teacher?

"I've always been passionate about health and physical fitness. From a young age, I became involved in sports and developed an interest in the human body. When I was 17 years old, I became an EMT and worked on an ambulance. It was a really fun job, and I learned a lot, but once I entered college, I realized I wanted to become a teacher. Since I loved health and science, I decided to major in Health Science and graduated as a Health and Physical Education teacher. Becoming a teacher has been one of the most fulfilling and enjoyable experiences of my life, and I’m so glad I get to share my love of health, sports, and wellness with all my students!"

Looking back on your time at CMS, what are some of your favorite memories of teaching health?

"Some of my favorite memories from teaching health at CMS include spending time with my students and creating a fun, interactive classroom environment. I really enjoyed the topics I got to teach and the projects I saw my students create. It was so fulfilling to watch them enjoy what they were learning and engage in class discussions and activities. I also had so much fun in gym class and made great memories teaching and playing sports with my students."

How has teaching health changed since you started, and how did those changes affect your teaching?

"Teaching health hasn’t changed too much since I started, as I’ve only been at CMS for 3 years. I’m always exploring new topics and fun things to teach about, but in general, a lot of the main topics stay the same. I’ve definitely become more comfortable over the years and have enjoyed exploring a more creative side of myself to make the classroom experience more exciting."

What will you always remember about your time here at CMS?

"The students and faculty are what I’ll remember and miss most about CMS. I have so many great memories in both the health classroom and gym, sharing laughs, hearing stories, and making memories with students and faculty alike. I’ll always remember the kindness and support I received, and how much the school community felt like a family!"

What is one message you have for students that you would like them to remember?

"One of my favorite mantras in life is two simple words: 'You can.' I really believe that you can become anything you want to be. You can achieve any goal you set for yourself. And lastly, you can make the world a better place just by being YOU! Work hard and never give up. I will miss all of you and want to thank you for the memories I’ll carry with me on my next adventure!"

The biggest takeaway is why she loves to teach Health. Another takeaway is that she teaches both Health and Physical Education. My favorite thing she said was "You can." It made me feel awesome because I believe that I can do anything and that I will not give up!
