Why Super Mario Galaxy Is the Best Mario Game
In short, Super Mario Galaxy is one of my favorite games on the Wii—possibly my favorite game, period. I'm going to list a few reasons why you are completely wrong if you chose a different favorite Mario game.
The Soundtrack
First of all, this soundtrack is amazing. I have it saved on Spotify, and I listen to it all the time. It creates a calm and peaceful vibe—perfect for traveling through a -455°F vacuum with no protection at all except for blue overalls and a red shirt. (Is Mario a god??) It fits the game perfectly, and I still can't believe how incredible it is. A true banger from Mahito Yokota and Koji Kondo.
The Mechanics
Alright. The gravity mechanics in this game are perfect—just perfect. The way it works is that if you're on a flat planet, you can jump to the other side. Also, I don’t understand how the planets with black holes work. (If you want to learn about black holes, here's an article link.) Anyway, the team at Nintendo found so many ways to use these mechanics creatively.
The Scenery & Planets
In this game, the planets are all so tiny that they always feel like that one filter. They’re packed with fun stuff to do and often feature these things called Launch Stars. These essentially pull you back like a slingshot and then completely SHOTGUN you into the next planet.
Conclusion
So now you know why Super Mario Galaxy is the best Mario game out there. I'm going to post an article on Super Mario Odyssey next, and just so you know, it comes in a close second.
